…standard greeting in Essex, which coincidentally is where I was born in the mid 1980s. Little did I know I would end up spending most of my 20’s and 30’s living and working Beijing and Shanghai. How did that happen?
Well I graduated in 2008 from the University of Sheffield with a degree in Architecture and Landscape. The expectation was to do a year in industry before heading back to complete my Masters and become a fully-fledged architect. Problem was, 2008 had a rather troubling financial landscape and Junior architects in training were not in high demand…except in China. There I went for 3 months and technically I am still waiting to go back to university to finish that degree.
I started making videos about Chinese made EVs in about 2018 on my own Youtube Channel called China Driver (now called Elliot Richards on EVs). This is where the interest began to grow and when COVID hit, I reached out to Fully Charged SHOW to see if they were interested in content from China – 50 videos from me so far and the interest shows no signs of going away.
I currently live in Shanghai, and love nothing more than finding out more about our transition to greener energy sources through the groundbreaking companies here in China.
(My middle name is Rhys – hence the domain of this site!)
